ELECOM Co., Ltd. of Japan announced that it has officially launched the world's first mobile power bank using "sodium ion batteries", the DE-C55L-9000 series. This "sodium ion mobile power bank" has a long life and high durability, and can be used safely even in extremely cold or hot environments, while taking into account safety and environmental protection.
ELECOM has been selling mobile power banks since the beginning of the popularity of smartphones in 2010, and has been ranked first in sales in Japan for 11 consecutive years (until 2025). In the process of selling many mobile power banks, ELECOM realized the problems of environmental burden and safety, so it started to develop this world's first mobile power bank using sodium ion batteries in order to improve these problems.
The DE-C55L-9000 series power bank launched by ELECOM has a capacity of 9,000mAh and supports USB Power Delivery (USB PD) and PPS (Programmable Power Supply) charging technologies. Its USB Type-C connection port provides a maximum output power of 45W, which can automatically adjust the voltage and current according to the connected device. It is not only suitable for smartphones such as iPhones and tablets such as iPads, but also can charge laptops.
According to ELECOM, sodium ion power banks have several unique advantages. First, it uses sodium ion batteries that are more friendly to the environment and the human body to replace rare metals such as cobalt and lithium used in traditional power banks. It not only solves the human rights and environmental issues involved in the mining process of these metals, but also helps to stabilize the supply chain, realize the utilization of sustainable development resources, and greatly reduce the potential impact on the environment and the human body.
Secondly, this power bank has a very wide range of environmental adaptability, whether it is a hot desert or a cold snowy mountain, it can be used normally. Its operating temperature range is from -35℃ to 50℃, and it can provide reliable power for devices even in extreme low temperature environments such as ski resorts.
Sodium-ion power banks also excel in safety. Compared to general lithium-ion batteries that may cause fires when damaged, sodium-ion batteries are less likely to cause thermal runaway even if they heat up internally, making them safer and allowing users to use them with greater peace of mind. In addition, this product also complies with the technical standards of Japan's Electrical Appliances and Materials Safety Act (PSE) and is equipped with Thermal Protection, which monitors and controls the temperature rise of the product 24 hours a day. It also has five protection functions, including overcharge, over-discharge, overcurrent, short-circuit protection, and temperature detection, providing all-round safety protection.
Another advantage of sodium-ion power banks is that they have an extremely long life. The cycle life of general lithium-ion batteries is about 500 times, while the sodium-ion battery built into this product has a cycle life of about 5,000 times, which is 10 times that of the former, so it can be used for a long time and is more economical. Taking this product with a battery capacity of 9,000mAh as an example, after fully charged, it can charge a 1,800mAh smartphone about 2.9 times, or a 3,000mAh smartphone 1.7 times, meeting daily use needs.
