According to multiple domestic media sources citing Reuters, Tesla's strategy has undergone significant changes in its recently released 2023 Impact Report - no longer mentioning the goal of delivering 20 million cars annually by 2030. This once again indicates that the company is adjusting its automotive business goals and shifting its focus to autonomous taxis.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated in 2020 that Tesla plans to sell 20 million cars by 2030, twice the sales of Toyota, the world's largest automaker. In both 2021 and 2022 Impact Reports, Tesla reiterated this goal. But recently, with changes in industry trends, Tesla seems to have changed its strategy and abandoned plans to produce a budget model (or named Model 2) with an estimated selling price of $25000 (approximately RMB 181000), while considering autonomous driving technology as its main source of growth in the future.
Musk stated through video at the annual Viva Technology conference held in Paris that Robotaxi and humanoid robot Optimus will have "extraordinary significance" for Tesla. He also revealed that Tesla plans to hold the Robotaxi press conference on August 8th, chosen because "8" is a lucky number in China. However, Tesla's strategic shift is not without challenges. In the first quarter of this year, Tesla's sales experienced its first year-on-year decline in nearly four years, with its stock price dropping by about 30%. In addition, the reliability of autonomous driving technology has also been repeatedly questioned.
